What is Facebook Group Engagement Bait

Let’s talk about something Facebook hates…

… and it’s probably something you’ve seen a lot of coaches do.

It’s called engagement bait.

That’s when you post things like:
👉 “Comment YES if you agree.”
👉 “Tag a friend who needs this.”
👉 “Drop an emoji if you’re in.”
👉 @everyone

It looks harmless.

You’re just trying to get people to interact, right?
But here’s the catch: Facebook knows when you’re gaming the system, and it punishes you for it…

When the algorithm sees engagement bait, it actually devalues your post and shows it to fewer people.

Over time, it can shadow ban your group, making it harder for your content to ever reach members.

So what’s the alternative? Authentic prompts.

Instead of forcing a “comment below,” ask a question that people want to answer. Instead of “tag a friend,” create a post that’s so relatable they share it on their own.

The difference?

One manipulates the algorithm. The other builds genuine conversation.

And in the long run, genuine conversation is what keeps your group alive.

If you want to know how else to spark real engagement that Facebook actually rewards… I’m going live soon to talk to you more about how you can build REAL engagement in your Facebook Group.

The answer is not to do more….

I remember as a kid driving up the big long dirt road hill, kneeling in the back seat looking out the back window as the clouds of dust swirled up behind the car, feeling so excited that the long drive was over. We had finally arrived! My parents thrilled that our...

Never Stop Being a Beginner

If there’s one thing I’ve learned after mentoring hundreds of coaches and scaling a single offer past the million-dollar mark… it’s this: The second you think you’ve “arrived,” you stop growing. And when growth stops, decline begins. There’s no final destination in...

When to hire out

I’m heading out the door to the airport to go to our home in Palm Springs with my hubby and the kiddos. Vancouver weather has been depressingly grey, so sunshine, here we come! The mad rush to get the kids ready and make sure we’ve got everything on our list was so...
