A couple years ago, I was running a launch within my Facebook Group
There were 2 rockstars who stood out to me and showed up everywhere.
They replied to every post…
They were the first to show up in all my live sessions…
In fact, every time I posted a CTA, they were the first to respond.
And their comments were full of hype…
“This was lifechanging!”
“WOW, so much value!”
“Seriously, no one says this better than you!”
If you looked at their behaviors inside the group, you would’ve sworn they were a lock.
They were so warm, I almost pre-wrote their welcome messages.
But the moment the offer dropped?
Crickets.
Absolute silence.
Even when I DM-ed them post offer, they would completely ghost me.
Not even considering it.
At first, I thought maybe I did something wrong.
Maybe I priced it too high. Maybe the offer wasn’t clear enough.
But then I realized…
I’ve been reading the wrong signals.
I mistook engagement for buying intent.
So here’s the biggest lesson I learned on how to tell who’s actually ready to buy, and who’s just here for the free value:
Not all engagement is created equal.
Before we dive in, it’s important to note the 3 types of people you’ll see inside a launch.
Lurker: Quiet, maybe compliments your vibe, but avoids commitment.
Potential: Starts asking questions, feels the pain, wants it, but hesitates.
Rockstar: Moving. Filling out forms. Booking calls. Using decision-making language.
And if you don’t know the difference, you’ll waste so much energy chasing people who were never going to say yes.
If you’ve been online for longer than 5 minutes…
You’ll know that the biggest trap is feeling like high-engagement = high interest.
So I took a beat.
I wanted to flip the script.
Instead of asking: “Who’s reacting to my posts?”
I started asking: “Who’s moving?”
Here’s what I mean:
Inside my launches, I started tracking a few key behaviors that told me way more than comments ever could.Did they click a link multiple times?
- Did they show up live more than once…. even if they didn’t say a word?
- Did they view my story the day the offer dropped?
- Did they DM back when I sent a follow-up reminder?
- Did they opt in to anything where the promise overlapped with my core offer?
These became my micro-signals.
And I paid attention.
Instead of obsessing over who’s hyping me up in the comments, I started tagging and tracking based on what they did quietly.
And here’s the thing: This doesn’t just help you sell more. It helps you protect your energy.
So when in doubt, remember this:
Comments are not conversions.
Clicks are not commitments.
But consistent movement is a signal.
And remember to always track everything!
